Jomsom

Jomsom can be defined as the small town located in the upper Kali Gandaki valley. Jomsom is the capital of Mustang and is dominated by the Annapurna and the Dhaulagiri ranges and situated at the bank of the Kali Gandaki river. Jomsom is also correctly known as the Dzongsam or the New Fort. It can be also called the dry land or the desert of Nepal. It is also the area offering the green landscapes, holy temples, monasteries, fast-flowing rivers and a lake called Turquoise Lake. Here, the climatic condition is cold and wet and snow-fall occurs in the winter seasons. This place Jomsom is accessible through the regular flight conducted from the Pokhara Airport and we can conduct a trek from Pokhara through Beni to Jomsom. Here the local residents are mostly Gurungs, Sherpas, Thakali and so on following their unique and the challenging living-standards. Due to the harsh climatic condition and topography mostly people residing here are dependent on the tourism activities rather than the agriculture. People mostly here follows Buddhism. Recently, a road way has touched Jomsom and is graveled. A new variety of people, culture, places, and their living standard can be experienced in this place.
